8 tips to write engaging content
Do you ever feel like you’re writing content for a brick wall? You put in all the effort, but it seems like no one is paying attention. Your blog posts get a few Likes and Shares, but no one is actually engaging with your content. This can be really frustrating, especially when you’re trying to build an audience. In this blog post, I will share 10 tips to write engaging content that will keep readers coming back for more!
Tip #1: Find your unique voice
There’s no magic formula for writing engaging content, but there are a few tried and true methods that can help. One of the most important things you can do, is to find your unique voice. Write like you speak, and don’t be afraid to let your personality shine through. It’s also important to write with clarity and precision, using language that is easy to understand. Finally, be sure to connect with your reader by reaching out and speaking to their needs and interests. If you can do all of these things, you’ll be well on your way to creating content that engages and inspires.
Tip #2: Write for your audience
When it comes to writing engaging content, one of the most important things to keep in mind, is your audience. After all, you’re not going to be able to engage your readers if you’re not writing for them in the first place. That’s why it’s important to take some time to think about who your target audience is and what they’re looking for. Once you have a good understanding of your audience, you’ll be able to write content that resonates with them and keeps them coming back for more.
Tip #3: Keep it short and sweet
This is something I struggle with sometimes, but writing long paragraphs is like watching a really slow tennis match: you keep waiting for something interesting to happen, but it never does. It’s much more engaging to write short, punchy paragraphs that get straight to the point. So if you want your readers to stick around, keep your paragraphs short and sweet. And if you’re not sure how short is short enough, just remember this rule of thumb: if a paragraph looks like it could be shorter, it probably should be.
Tip #4: Use images and videos
As any writer knows, words are important. They can be used to tell a story, evoke an emotion, or provide information. But sometimes, words just aren’t enough. That’s where images and videos come in. A picture is worth a thousand words, and a video can convey even more information. When used effectively, images and videos can be powerful tools to engage your audience. So if you’re looking for a way to take your content to the next level, consider adding some visuals. Your readers will thank you. Also, check out these pieces of content of HubSpot that help engage readers.
Tip #5: Tell a story
In the early days of the internet, people used to say that content was king. These days, however, it’s all about engagement. If you want people to read your content, you need to make it engaging. And one of the best ways to do that is to tell a story. Stories are a powerful way to connect with readers and create an emotional connection. They can also be used to illustrate a point or teach a lesson. When used effectively, stories can make your content come alive and help you connect with your readers on a deeper level. So if you want to write engaging content, don’t be afraid to tell a story. It just might be the best way to connect with your readers.
Tip #6: Be personal and honest
Being personal and honest in your writing can be hard. You might worry that you’ll come across as too vulnerable or that you’ll share too much information. But the truth is that being personal and honest is one of the best ways to connect with your readers. When you’re open and honest about your experiences, it helps your readers feel like they know you. And when you’re vulnerable, it allows your readers to see that you’re just like them – fallible and human. So don’t be afraid to be personal and honest in your writing. It’s one of the best ways to write engaging content.
Tip #7: Use statistics and data
I’m sure you’ve all been there before – sitting at your computer, staring at a blank screen, desperately trying to think of something to write. The pressure to produce engaging content can be overwhelming, but never fear! I have the perfect solution: statistics and data. That’s right, nothing is more guaranteed to get your readers engaged than a healthy dose of numbers and facts. After all, who doesn’t love a good statistic? Just make sure that you use them sparingly, or you run the risk of boring your readers to death. Use them wisely, and you’ll have engaging content in no time!
Tip #8: Ask
Writer’s block is a common affliction, but there are ways to overcome it. One of the simplest and most effective techniques is to ask a question. By posing a question to your reader, you can immediately engage their attention and get them thinking about the topic at hand. What’s more, asking a question can help to focus your own thoughts and ideas, making it easier to develop a clear and concise argument. So if you’re struggling to engage your readers, try starting with a question. It just might be the key to unlocking your creativity.
Why gum prevents me from writing in Dutch
As some of you might know, I’m from the Netherlands. The land of windmills, roses, cheese, dikes and bikes. You also might know it because of Amsterdam, drugs and prostitutes, but let’s keep it positive.
So, why would someone from the Netherlands, write in English? It’s not my native language, my mom and dad are both Dutch, I’ve always learned Dutch at school and at home my wife, son and I speak Dutch. Or at least my son is trying.
Noses run, but feet smell.Who knew.
Some people have a fascination for French or Italian. I never shared that passion. I just love to speak, write of even dream in English. When I have an imaginary conversation, it’s in English. Television? English. Music? English. Websites? English. Books? English.
I think you get the point.
Also, there are more native English-speaking people, than there are native Dutchies. So to reach more people, it’s better to write in English. Right?
Can it BE anymore abvious?
Another reason to write in English, is because I have the feeling that I can express myself a lot better. To be honest, Dutch is kind of a boring language. Impossible to learn, we have more exceptions on exceptions then actual exceptions. And the pronunciation… Jesus.
Listening to someone speaking Dutch, while not speaking Dutch, is like seeing someone choke on chewing gum. The one and only Chandler Bing explains best 🙂
That is why I like to write in English.
Dutch clients
Of course, it’s not all that bad. Dutch can be a beautiful language, and to be clear, most of my clients are Dutch, So yes, I do write in Dutch as well. Especially for other businesses.
Since this is my personal website, I can write whatever I like in whatever language I prefer.
Traveling keeps our curiosity alive
It has been 10 years since Sjoerd and I first traveled the world together. We were amazed as well as inspired.
Our curiosity got us to mysterious places and all we wanted since was to share our passion and ‘travel happiness’ as we call it. So we started Reis-Expert.
Looking back it’s been one hell of a journey and I would’ve never have guessed that it would bring us to where we are now.
Die with memories. Not dreams.Anthony J James.
Each day we inspire thousands of travellers to travel the world. From just the two of us we now work with a team of happy travelers who all help us to pursue our dreams.
We are all born with a desire to explore, but this drive to explore fades over time. Other desires, like predictability, take over.
Curiosity
By traveling, we keep our curiosity alive.
We believe that everyone should travel the world. Whether it’s to nearby countries or remote places. Whether it’s 7 days or 7 months.
We may inspire you with our website, and I hope we do, but it’s up to you to make that choice and explore the world.
And I hope you do.
Sail the oceans. Travel to remote beaches. Be amazed by different cultures. Watch the sun set. Stay long enough to see it rise again. Sleep under the night sky. Wander through cities. Hike the jungle. Spend hours in crappy busses. Get annoyed and enjoyed at the same time. Dance with strangers. Make new friends. Fall in love. Get your heart broken… and do it all over again.
Traveling can be challenging sometimes, but finding that one magical place is like seeing the world as a kid. Filled with a sense of wonder.
It’s a cliché, but if you dream big, work hard, listen to people but trust your guts, be persistent, challenge yourself and make mistakes, dreams do come true as long as you have the right intentions.
Happy travels!
